The Band and Bugles of the Rifles provide support for all manner of military and civilian events, ranging from Royal Garden Parties at Buckingham Palace to the Edinburgh Military Tattoo. In recent times the Band has visited much of continental Europe, Cyprus, Kenya, Azerbaijan, the Falkland Islands, Bermuda and Australia. Captain Mark Purvey is a published composer and arranger. His work has been performed on both the Queen's Birthday Parade and the Massed Bands Beating of the Retreat. He is also an instrumentalist and can still be found playing saxophone with a variety of ensembles including the Army Big Band and the Westminster Saxophone Quartet. He also threatens to play the bagpipes from time to time. |
