A Royal Array
The first half, performed in Tudor costume included well known English pieces from the Renaissance period such as Greensleeves, the poignant beauty of The Silver Swan (Gibbons), and the unaffected merry-making in Now is the month of Maying (Morley).
The second half included music and song from around the British Isles and the whole programme featured a large number of instruments, including recorders, flutes, crumhorn, early English bagpipes, shawm, serpent, psaltery, Gothic harp, bandora, lute, mandolin, hammer dulcimer and percussion.
